I learn so much from my tourism audiences. Like many of my clients, they simply need to get more media coverage. Right away I take you through the process of thinking like the media and the audience you want to attract.
You could be looking for how to get more earned media and free publicity. You might simply want to be great at your next presentation.
As I told attendees at the WIGCOT or WI Governor’s Convention on Tourism, THINK about these questions.
Who is the audience? How will they benefit? What do they want to know?
Of course, you always learn more by listening. When I asked the group to work on their audience benefit, someone from Noah’s Ark waterpark in Wisconsin Dells, stood up and talked about Raga – a new attraction coming this summer.
Who is their audience? Kids. What is Noah’s Ark doing to bring in the audience in before the ride has even opened?
They are taking Raga to schools. Not literally but they are getting kids involved. Noah’s Ark is working with math and science teachers to teach kids what it takes to propel their bodies down the World’s Largest King Cobra slide.
Noah’s Ark can show cool simulation video to TV stations and provide the word problems as a PDF download link. If they are interviewed by radio stations or newspaper, same drill.
Ask the media to post the PDF on their websites. Having your branding and name on media outlets websites will, not only improve your SEO (search engine optimization) but provide good content.
Giving away a math sheet away or even a “What to Pack for the Dells Checklist” is smart if the PDF comes with your branding and announcement of deals.
