Does Your Sales Job Scare You? Why You Need to Become a Teacher.

As a newbie entrepreneur, I’m learning some companies I want to buy from don’t know how to sell me. Maybe they don’t want to oversell or put pressure on a new client. Maybe they think I already know what I need.  But judging from the entrepreneurs I’m coaching  – we all feel the same. “We don’t know what we don’t know.”

Making a solid sales presentation is not that much different than producing a great TV segment. Dazzle people with information they don’t know and need.

I’m sharing with clients what I know from my past as a media professional and everything I’m learning about marketing myself now. In this digital age, all the tricks and flips aren’t easy. So please, don’t think of it as selling. Think of it as teaching us what we should consider doing and what you could provide.

One of my tips for companies who want to attract the media or any audience – is to think like a TV producer or potential client.

You need to do the work of explaining who you are to the world.

  • What would you want to see as a viewer?
  • How could you make your product or service interesting to the audience?
  • What could you demonstrate or show as a cool video?

A reporter might be coming to your business or you’ve been booked for an in-studio segment, but media folks don’t have time to tell you the best way to present yourself. You need to do the work. You need to figure out how to dress yourself, and your display table. You need to figure out what’s the best thing to say to capture people’s attention.

TV viewers are no different than anyone else and these lessons apply to any audience you want to impress. If you’re a sales person, show me what I don’t know and what I could have in an entertaining way.

Remember: Content is KING and QUEEN.. and a few of their children.

You can read all about it in my new book. And if you’d like to have the chance to win a FREE headshot with the awesome photographer who took this picture or a FREE 30-minute coaching session with me – RSVP now for my January 19th book signing at Boswell Books. Looking forward to seeing you.  No pressure 🙂
